Personality: Through Ni No Kuni, Evan's goals remain constant. He wants to build a kingdom where everyone can live happily ever after. With this, he seeks to unite the world so that there is peace between each kingdom, including his own. Perhaps it's primarily because he experiences hardships at the very beginning of the game that he is prompted to create such a kingdom. While it may seem like a naive idea, he does gain the support of those around him. There are countless people who wish for him to succeed during his journey, and it's that support that helps to make that goal possible.

The first impression we get of Evan is someone who is seemingly naive to the world around him. It takes him some time before he realizes that a coup is occurring in the castle, and nearly almost dies because of this. There are many things outside of his kingdom that he seems new to, and it is hinted that he not used to the idea of strife. He does admit that his kingdom – Ding Dong Dell – is one that has seen peace for countless generations. However, Evan is a character who develops into someone who can be worthy of being called a king through the game. He goes from being fairly uncertain of what to do next to someone who builds his own kingdom and becomes a ruler that many people can depend on.

While being naive is generally seen as a flaw, it may also be what prompts him to help so many people. Though Evan genuinely wishes to see others happy – there is little hesitation when it comes to helping others, no matter how small or great the task is. While this is something that helps him to gather more citizens to his kingdom, it is also something that sometimes places him in danger. Another example of his naivety can be seen during his revisit to Ding Dong Dell. During this, he's faced with the fact that the Grimalkins (cat-like creatures) are being oppressed and forced into a place called the slums. He admits that he had no idea that Grimalkins had previously bullied and oppressed Mousekind and appears torn at the idea that his father could have been someone who was a poor leader.

Evan is also full of energy – always ready to take on the next big task or do what is needed. This goes hand in hand with being what others see as a great leader – someone who is constantly doing what they can to improve either Evermore – his kingdom – or the world in general. Perhaps this is due to his motivations, along with being young, but something that is constant is that Evan is always doing what he can to improve. In general though, Evan is a kind-hearted, selfless character who always does what he believes is right and just. Even after being wronged by Mausinger and overthrown by him – even after discovering that he was the one who murdered his father – Evan entrusts him with Ding Dong Dell after finding out that Mausinger had been manipulated into committing those crimes. Instead of vengeance, he seeks to form an alliance of sorts with Ding Dong Dell.

Evan is seemingly smart for his age. While Roland is his adviser, Evan is someone who appears to be incredibly capable for his age. His decisions are ones that better his kingdom and those around him. Although seemingly new to both combat and the world outside of Ding Dong Dell, Evan is fast to both adapt and become stronger. Perhaps it is also due to his determination to accomplish his goals that pushes him to better himself. However, he is someone who never stops developing for the better during Ni No Kuni. Evan is someone who learns how to face hardships head on.

Despite everything, Evan is still a child. He admits when he's nervous or uncertain, and sometimes has mild outbursts if he's overwhelmed with something. There are moments where he must think some hardships through before coming to a conclusion. However, Evan is always someone who does his best to get through any adversaries.

Of course, as any good leader would do – Evan forms valuable relationships with others in canon. Roland is the prime example of this. Roland starts off as a stranger and eventually becomes his adviser once Evermore starts to be built. He becomes something of a father figure to Evan, while Roland may very well see his son in Evan. Although Roland had come from another world, Evan eventually depends on him for support and guidance. There is also Battu, who originally had threatened to kill him for trespassing on pirate territories (as a pirate would normally do). However, it's his good-natured personality and willingness to help others that helps him gain both support and friends. Evan is naturally a people person.

It's also important to note that other people do influence Evan. He admits that he admires other rulers and uses the good to help influence him to be a better king.

At the same time, he can perhaps be a little too trusting. At one point, Roland pretends to betray Evermore in favor of Ding Dong Dell, and Evan appears to be in disbelief that anyone would betray them. At the same time, it's his naivety that causes him to believe that Roland would betray them (when it ends up being a lie). He's also befriended those who have tried to kill him or wrong him in the past.

Despite the fact that Evermore is a successful kingdom, Evan is well aware that he was room to grow in nearly every aspect. It appears that with every chapter of the game, Evan is growing overall as a person who others can depend on.

Abilities: SWORDSMANSHIP At the point I'm apping Evan from, he's grown rather skilled with a sword. He can move quickly and dodge enemies by side-stepping away from them. There's an accessory given to him at the start of Ni No Kuni that's also rather unique. With it, Evan can carry up to four swords at a time with him. These swords can all be uniquely different from one another, appearing from this accessory out of seemingly no where. However, he can only use one sword at a time.

MAGIC Evan carries a magic wand with him. This ability one is a little more broad than swordsmanship. Evan learns various magic spells through the game. In a fight, however- Evan can use different elemental spells. This can be with fire, water, light, darkness, earth, and wind. However, it does take him 10 seconds or so to recover from using those spells. As a note, he can also use his magic wand to shoot balls of light at his enemy.

BRIDGE: A spell that reveals hidden passageways.

NATURES TONGUE: With this, Evan can speak to both plants and animals.

SPIRIT MEDIUM Evan is able to speak to the departed with this spell.

SPRING LOCK: This is a seal that unlocks locked doors.

REJUVANETE A spell that can repair broken objects back to a unbroken state.

QUICKEN GROWTH A spell that makes plants grow far quicker than they normally would – they grow almost instantly with this spell.

EXCLUSIVE SPELLS: The following spells are exclusive to the Ni No Kuni world.
WIND WHIPPER This is used more for a specific plant in Evan's world. After using this spell, the plant turns around quickly, creating a gust of wind that Evan and co can use to jump high.
WATER SLIDE These are used with specific fountains. When using this, the fountain sprouts a rather long and thick stream of water that the characters can ride.
KINDLE Evan produces fire with this spell, using Higgledy (creatures that live in the Ni No Kuni world) to light machines.

Alignment: Thras. I feel as though bravery is something that partly defines Evan on his journey. While his journey starts off as one that seems hopeless and he seems to have many powerful enemies – it's partly Evan's bravery that helps push him through. While fear isn't a huge part of it, I feel that he has the bravery of both a leader and a warrior. It's bravery that helps him unite the world, and bravery that helps him build an entire kingdom.
